In this task, we were given 3 magazine titles and had to design the layout for the title on each one. the titles were 'Popworld', 'Death Metal', and 'Popcorn'.
The first one I created was 'Popworld'. 'Popworld' to me sounded as if it was a Pop music magazine, therefore I used light and bright pink/purple colours in order to show it was to do with the Pop genre. The font for this header was 'Hobo STD'. The reason for this is the font was a bubbly and round shape which gave out the vibe of an informal and crazy style. I added a border around this font by double-clicking the layer and ticking the box Stroke, this allowed the font to be visible on almost any background. I also added a circle shape by going on the toolbar and clicking the Ellipse Tool, I then used the tools at the top to create the border and background colour of the circle.
Moreover, to make the 'Death Metal' header, I had to think of what the words 'Death' and 'Metal' would mean in a magazine. I believed it was a genre of Music, therefore the background was given an Electric Guitar and flames to indicate this was about extreme music. The font I used for this header was 'Trajan Pro'. I believed it gave a Medieval look, therefore I thought it would look suitable for the heading. I added a border and a drop shadow in order to visibly see the title due to the flames in the background; this was done by double-clicking the text layer and ticking the boxes Stroke and Drop Shadow.
Lastly, like the other two headers, I had to think about what the word 'Popcorn' meant for a magazine title. I thought that the magazine would have been something to do with Movies, therefore I used the font 'Rosewood STD' as most classical movie theatres & circus' used this font to show movie titles or events. I made the font colour a light yellow and added a dark red border so the heading looked classical and interesting. Because the masthead was to do with 'Popcorn', I added some popcorn images in the background and placed them so it looked as though the popcorn was spilling out of the basket. I believe this gave a good effect to the masthead.
